Vertical Greenery as an Eye-Catcher in the Open Space at Yuverta MBO Velp
At Yuverta MBO Velp, a unique green interior solution was created by making full use of previously unused vertical space. In a large open area within the school, with clear sightlines towards the first and second floors, a distinctive green installation was created using the MDL plant wall system.
The architecture of the space creates an impressive sense of openness. From the ground floor, you can look up towards the upper levels, with the walkways surrounding the open space functioning almost like balconies. This vertical structure provided a unique opportunity to introduce greenery in a way that can be seen and experienced from multiple levels.
MDL planters were installed along the sides of these balcony-like galleries on both the first and second floors. The planters were arranged in a playful, staggered pattern, creating a dynamic green composition that extends across multiple levels of the building.
Greenery That Enhances the Architecture
For this project, the aim was deliberately to create a solution that goes beyond simply placing individual plants. The green elements have been integrated into the existing architecture and form an integral part of the overall experience of the space.
The staggered arrangement creates a natural flow along the façades of the galleries. From different viewpoints, the installation takes on a constantly changing appearance: visitors can see the greenery from the entrance, from the ground floor and from the upper levels themselves.
This creates a three-dimensional green environment that emphasises the height of the building while bringing additional warmth and atmosphere to the open space.
Smart Use of Unused Vertical Space
In many buildings, high walls and open vertical surfaces remain unused. With this project, Yuverta MBO Velp demonstrates how vertical space can instead play an important role in the interior design of a building.
By placing the MDL planters along the sides of the galleries, the available floor space remains fully intact. At the same time, the space gains a strong visual feature that immediately attracts attention.
The green installation also creates a visual connection between the different floors of the building. The greenery follows the architectural lines of the building, allowing the open space to be experienced as one cohesive whole.
A Green Solution for a Sustainable Educational Environment
For Yuverta MBO Velp, this green addition fits perfectly with the identity of the school. As an educational institution with a strong focus on nature, sustainability and the living environment, it is important that these values are also reflected in the surroundings where students and staff spend their time every day.
The integration of greenery into the building contributes to a pleasant and inspiring learning environment. The plants add a natural character and introduce a lively element to a space that would otherwise consist mainly of structural and hard materials.
The MDL planters transform the open space from simply a circulation area into a place with character, atmosphere and a strong sense of connection with nature.
A Unique Green Statement
The project at Yuverta MBO Velp demonstrates that greenery does not have to be limited to floor-level solutions. By making creative use of height, sightlines and existing architectural elements, a solution with maximum visual impact can be created.
The staggered MDL planters on the first and second floors form a vertical green structure that enhances the space and invites visitors to look upwards.
What began as unused vertical space has been transformed into a striking green feature that reinforces the identity of Yuverta MBO Velp: a place where learning, nature and innovation come together.
